Certification Standard Scorecard

The following items are used to evaluate the certification candidate:

Does the individual understand the limitations of a single antenna receiver versus that of a multiple antenna receiver?

Does the individual properly identify utility line characteristics, such as insulation, close-end and far-end connections to other lines, and close-end and far-end grounding?

Does the individual understand the three levels of detectable current?

  1. peak response only
  2. peak and null response only
  3. peak, null, and validated depth response

Does the individual understand methods that will increase (or decrease) current flow on a utility line?

  1. changing frequency
  2. moving the transmitter’s location
  3. changing the deployment of the grounding antenna
  4. using the transmitter in inductive mode
  5. changing the close-end or far-end grounds

Does the individual know five methods to determine signal shape?

  1. peak vs. null
  2. depth estimation validation
  3. peak method
  4. null method
  5. triangulation

Does the individual understand methods that may change a non-circular field into a circular field?
  1. changing frequency
  2. moving the transmitter’s location
  3. changing the deployment of the grounding antenna
  4. using the transmitter in inductive mode
  5. changing the close-end and far-end grounds

Does the individual understand that current may be present that is not produced by the transmitter?
